Life in Africa…..

Most of the time I have to gently inform people that even though we live in Africa, we do not have wild animals roaming the streets. Johannesburg is a first world city.

I may however have to take this back….a Brown Hyena has just been found in a well-populated Johannesburg suburb just up the road from where I live!!

This is what a Brown Hyena looks like – they stand over a metre high and weigh about 40 kg.  I have seen them in the Kruger Park, and they are quite scary!

Happily, especially for the Hyena’s sake, she has been darted by the FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and safely repatriated to Johannesburg Zoo.

Caught in Action! African wildlife and city life meet up!

As the local like to say here, Africa is not for sissies!! 🙂

Just Because It’s Friday Photo…..

This week’s Friday Photo was taken at Glacier Bay in Alaska.  This picture shows the top edge of the Marjorie Glacier.   It is one of the most beautiful things I have seen with its jagged, abstract,  sharp shapes, and Glacier Bay is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been to – a small piece of heaven on earth.

Blue Butterfly Garland

A short while ago I posted a picture of this necklace saying that it reminded me of a garland of blue butterflies:

This week’s Friday Photo was taken at the Niagara Falls, from the Canadian side.  I couldn’t believe the beautiful permanent rainbow created by the sun on the Falls’ mist and spray – stunning.

Just Because It’s Friday Photo…..

This week’s Friday Photo is another of my wildlife pictures.  This photo of a pair of Giraffes at a watering hole was taken during a visit to Etosha Game Reserve in Namibia.  The way the Giraffe’s lips are puckered up, they look like they are kissing the water!
