As with most things in life, a little TLC goes a long way – and your gemstone jewellery should be no exception.
This month we are looking at how to keep your onyx gemstone jewellery looking tip-top!
To keep onyx jewellery looking it’s best it should be cleaned occasionally. Contact with skin and chemicals can begin to soil and discolour the stone. The stones gradually develop a matte covering of accumulated gunk! You probably won’t notice it until you take a good hard look close up, and then you will see exactly what I mean….
How To Clean Your Onyx Gemstone Jewellery
Cleaning your onyx gemstone jewellery is a simple process but does require a little care – as always when handling jewellery, softly softly please!
Things You’ll Need
- Soft cloth
- Dish soap
- Baking soda
- Clean the onyx with a soft cloth only. Add a small amount of water to aid in scrubbing away any dirt or build-up on the stone.
- Add a small amount of dish soap to the water to clean especially difficult stains.
- If your onyx jewellery is in a setting, clean the setting with a paste made from baking soda and water. Mix 1 tbsp. of baking soda with 3 oz. of water to form a paste the consistency of glue.
- Allow the paste to sit on the silver for 5 minutes before wiping it off with a clean damp cloth.
And that’s it, you’re done! 🙂
